Fontana resident arrest may solve string of local burglaries

On Thursday, May 24 Paul Banic, a 53-year-old Fontana resident, was arrested for residential burglary, possession of stolen property and identity theft. Sometime during the early morning hours on Wednesday, May 23, the suspect—later identified as Mr. Banic—entered a residence on the 4100 block of Oak Hollow Rd. through an unlocked door while the resident was asleep. The suspect stole the victim’s purse, a wallet and other personal items. The Claremont Police Detective Bureau and patrol officers identified Mr. Banic and found he was also wanted in connection to a theft on March 26. The suspect’s vehicle—a 1997 white Jaguar—was also identified, and the information was passed on to patrol officers, who located the vehicle at around 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. During a search of the car, officers found stolen property taken from the Oak Hollow Road burglary, as well as stolen property related to burglaries in Chino Hills, Montclair and Pomona. Mr. Banic was held on $50,000 bail. His arraignment was Tuesday, May 29.
