Whittier man accused of kidnapping woman from Claremont home

Police arrested a Whittier man Saturday morning after he allegedly kidnapped a woman from a Claremont home.

Officers initially responded to a battery call at a home on the 700 block of west San Jose Avenue around 1:34 a.m., according to Sgt. Robert Ewing of the Claremont Police Department. When they arrived, officers were told a 28-year-old woman had been abducted by the father of her two children, identified as 41-year-old Julian Rene Delayo.

Officers obtained Mr. Delayo’s home address in Whittier, as well as his vehicle information. His car was located at his Whittier residence, and Claremont police established a perimeter around the home with the help of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, police said.

After Mr. Delayo was called out from the residence, he allegedly fled the home out the back door. He was eventually found just before 9 a.m. hiding in a rear yard of a nearby residence and taken into custody without incident, police said.

The victim was located in Mr. Delayo’s home and was unharmed.

Mr. Delayo is being held at the LA County Inmate Reception Center on charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and obstruction of justice. He is being held on $220,000 bail, and his arraignment is set for June 12 at Pomona Superior Court.
