Upland Chamber hosts Tiki Poker and Luau event

The Upland Chamber of Commerce will host its first multi-service community event, Tiki Poker and Luau, at the Scheu Family YMCA on Saturday, September 8 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at 1150 E. Foothill Blvd., Upland in the new recreation space outside the court area.

Community organizations and all community members are welcome. Tickets and sponsorships are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

“The event benefits the kids of Upland and surrounding areas to give them a chance to go to kid’s summer camp. All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. The YMCA will offer each camper adventurous outdoor games, hiking, swimming and fun opportunities to develop leadership, team-building and social skills,” said David Garthwaite, UCC committee chair.

Guests can enjoy a night of fun, for both novice and trained poker players and for those who want to play carnival games. An admission fee of $35 gives access to the carnival games, networking, entertainment and luau party offering food and tropical drinks, bourbon walk, raffle prizes, food and beverages from local restaurants and beverage vendors.

An additional charge of $75 is required for those who want to participate in the Texas Hold Em’ card game at the poker area with cash prizes. Poker will begin at 7 p.m.

Community organizations may host a game booth, or the chamber committee can assist in creating or selecting a carnival game. The cost to sponsor a booth is free, but organizations are asked to donate a gift-wrapped raffle prize with a value of $75. Each organization will receive entry for one person to the event, and that person will run the carnival game throughout the evening.

Featured community organizations are: the Cooper Museum, the Upland Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Scheu Family YMCA of Upland, the Odd-Fellows Organization, Dive Warriors, The Rotary Club of Upland, The Lions Club of Upland, Upland YMCA Megan’s Wings-Changing Children’s Lives, Volunteers of Inland Empire, Executive Women International, Trinity Youth Services and Foothill Family Shelter.
