After weeks of speculation and vote counting, the Claremont city council election has been certified.

Jennifer Stark, Jed Leano and Ed Reece are officially Claremont’s newest councilmembers, according to finalized results from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder.

Around 73 percent of registered Claremonters went to the polls on November 8, accoording to Claremont City Clerk Shelley Desautels. This is above the county average of 58.14 percent.

All told, Ms. Stark received the highest amount of votes, with 8,355 (24.57 percent). Mr. Leano came in second place with 7,248 votes (21.31 percent).

Mr. Reece landed in the third and final spot, garnering 6,146 votes (18.07 percent). Zach Courser was only 53 votes behind, coming in fourth with 6,093 votes (17.92 percent.)

It was a close battle for third place between Mr. Reece and Mr. Courser throughout the vote counting process. On the morning after Election Day, Mr. Reece led Mr. Courser by 110 votes, but as more ballots were counted, the lead slimmed down to just 21 votes before settling at 53.

Douglas Lyon came in fifth place with 3,093 votes (9.09 percent) and Michael Ceraso came in sixth place with 3,075 votes (9.04 percent).

Broken down further, Ms. Stark carried nearly every precinct in Claremont; of the 13 precincts, Ms. Stark won 11 of them. Mr. Reece and Mr. Leano each won one precinct.

The three new city councilmembers will be sworn in on December 11.
