Alert officer stops burglary before it happens at Peppertree

On December 25th at 4:40am, a Claremont Police Officer noticed a silver Dodge Charger with paper plates in the parking lot at Peppertree Square—at Indian Hill Blvd./Arrow Hwy. As the officer approached, the vehicle went south on Indian Hill Boulevard and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was not only unlicensed, the had numerous burglary tools in the car. While searching the vehicle, officers found two sets of oversized bolt cutters, pry bars, and torches/butane tanks, along with a grocery bag full of cigarettes. During the investigation, an officer responded back to Peppertree Square and located a black bag behind a pillar at the front of Smokeology. The bag contained a large torch and other items. The investigation revealed the suspects intended to commit a burglary at the location, but fled when the officer was spotted. It was later determined the cigarettes located in the vehicle were obtained from a burglary in the City of Chino.
