Police respond to human trafficking tip at motel

On Tuesday, January 8 Claremont police rescued a 17-year-old girl at Motel 6 who may have been a victim of human trafficking. After getting a tip from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, officers went to the motel around 2 p.m. and found the girl, who was a reported runaway from Kentucky, Sgt. Ewing said. The girl was in one room with a 17-year-old boy, and four adults were in an adjacent room. Two of the adults were arrested—39-year-old Shauna Smith of Pomona on suspicion of possessing meth and being under the influence, and 22-year-old Robbie Wooten on an arrest warrant. The girl was taken into protective custody.
