The Claremont Police Department and LA County Fire Department are currently assisting SoCal Gas with a large gas leak in the 400 block of west Bonita Avenue.

According to police, a work crew doing road work accidentally struck a main gas line. Bonita Avenue is currently closed from Indian Hill Boulevard to Berkeley Avenue, police added.

The adjacent streets in this area are also closed, with no access to Bonita Avenue, police said.

Police are saying the repairs could take up to one hour, and are urging Claremonters to find alternate routes of travel.

Officers have gone door to door in the immediate area contacting residents, but there are no mandatory evacuations at this time.
