Illegal gambling ring busted in south Claremont, eight arrested

Eight people were arrested after Claremont police busted an alleged illegal gambling ring operating out of a local business.

Officers from the recently-created POP (Problem-Oriented Policing) team obtained a search warrant on The PC Stop at 750 south Indian Hill Boulevard after receiving information that it was running an illegal casino, according to Sgt. Robert Ewing of the Claremont Police Department.

Police served a search warrant on Tuesday, and found five subjects engaged in illegal gambling, as well as two employees of the business.

Once everyone was detained, officers searched the business and found two large electronic video gambling machines, seven computers used for online gambling, a large amount of US currency and an unregistered Glock 43 handgun, Sgt. Ewing said.

The business was apparently operating without a city license, and other undetermined municipal and building code violations were located inside, police said.

Arrested were 39-year-old Huy Phan of Garden Grove for gambling and possession of an unregistered weapon; 46-year-old Billy Bui of Westminster for gambling; 28-year-old Ledreina Davis id Ontario for gambling, possession of narcotics and a warrant; 31-year-old Sidneisha Helms of Pomona for gambling; 37-year-old Horiana Cueva of Montclair for possession of narcotics and gambling; 23-year-old Salena Williams of Pomona for gambling, possession of narcotics and a warrant; 28-year-old Lorraine Guajaroo of Jurupa Valley for gambling, and 51-year-old Samuel Mendoza for a warrant.

Anyone with more information should call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.
