Quick action saves trash truck from fire

Firefighters with Los Angeles County Fire Department douse a few remaining hot spots in a pile of recyclables that caught fire Wednesday afternoon at La Puerta Sports Park. According to City of Claremont community services supervisor Isaac Quintero, a city trash truck was on its scheduled rounds picking up recyclables in North Claremont when he noticed smoke coming from the back of the truck and dumped the contents in the parking lot of the sports park. Engine crews from Claremont fires stations 102 and 62 responded to extinguish the fire. The driver’s quick actions prevented the truck from being damaged. COURIER photo/Steven Felschundneff
