Community meeting planned for new development on Foothill and Monte Vista
The Commons is a mixed-use community consisting of up to 27 single-family homes, 20 townhomes and 10 flat-style units above 5,000 square feet of retail.
The meeting will be held on Monday, June 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the city yard, 1616 Monte Vista Ave.
A scoping meeting, led by Ray Hussey, a CEQA project manager hired by the city, was held in September 2018 to introduce the project and discuss elements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
“Right now we’re really early in on the process,” he said at the meeting. “There hasn’t been any analysis. The project is still making its way on the planning side through the city of Claremont as well as Upland.”
The owner of the land, Clare Properties, has been trying to develop the property for nearly 35 years. Ben Swenson from Americal Management represents Clare Properties.
“I’ve got probably 25 or 30 site plans just in the 14 years I have been working on this project,” he said.
The project straddles the line between Claremont and Upland and, therefore, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. The developer will be required to seek approval from both cities to move forward with construction.
