Explore the comedy of tragedy at Midsummer Shakespeare Festival

Theater company Ophelia’s Jump and Claremont’s Pomona College will once again co-sponsor the Midsummer Shakespeare Festival from July 11 to July 21 at the college’s Sontag Greek Theater, an outdoor amphitheater originally built in 1910.

The festival opens this Thursday, July 11 with Taming of the Shrew, which repeats Saturday, July 13, Friday, July 19 and Sunday, July 21.

On Friday, July 12, theater-lovers can enjoy a performance of The Adventures of Pericles Prince of Tyre, which will repeat Sunday, July 14, Thursday, July 18 and Saturday, July 20.

On Tuesday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 17, Ophelia’s Jump will offer special family-friendly kids’ theater titled Mostly Macbeth, featuring OJP Summer Camp Young Performers. Admission to the kids’ show is $15.

Grounds open at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and at 5 p.m. on Saturdays for picnicking. Nightly “green” shows begin at 7 p.m. 

Saturdays are “festival days,” featuring arts and crafts vendors, games, a photo booth and Bert & Rocky’s ice cream. Last Name Brewing and Claremont Craft Ales beer, as well as wine and snacks, are available at concessions.  

Performances begin at 8 p.m. each night. Admission is $25 per show, however, festival and family passes are available at a discounted rate. Call (909) 734-6565 or visit opheliasjump.org to purchase tickets.
