New electric vehicle charging stations in parking structure

The city installed three new electric vehicle charging stations on the ground floor of the First Street parking structure, according to the city manager’s report.

The dual-port stations will each serve two vehicles concurrently, adding six new charging opportunities. The city secured the charging stations at no cost through a donation program offered by Newhall and ChargePoint. The donated charging stations have a value of more than $20,000, the city said.

All installation costs were covered through a Mobile SourceAir Pollution Reduction Committee (MSRC) grant; therefore, no city funds were expended to complete this improvement.

The new stations will increase the number of charging ports in the Claremont Village from four to 10. The existing four charging stations have been highly utilized since installation in 2014 and have helped the community avoid 52,500 kg of greenhouse gas emissions, according to the city manager’s report. That’s like planting 1,346 trees and letting them grow for 10 years, the city said.

The installation project is anticipated to take two weeks. Parking adjacent to the installation will be affected intermittently. Contact the Community Services Department with questions related to this improvement at (909) 399-5431.
