Measure CR campaign kick off this Sunday

A community kickoff event for the campaign to pass Measure CR is planned for Sunday, September 8, at Walter’s Restaurant, 310 N. Yale Ave., beginning at 2 p.m.

Measure CR is a local proposition on the November 5 ballot which, if passed, would increase the local sales by three-quarters of a percent.

Proponents say this measure will ensure the city’s ability to continue to deliver the services that Claremonters expect.

“This effort comes after years of deep reductions in the city’s budget and was the leading recommendation of a citizens’ committee that studied new revenue opportunities,” organizers said.

“Currently, Claremont receives only one percent of our 9.50 percent sales tax, the rest going to the state, county and other taxing agencies,” proponents argue. “The state-allowed maximum is 10.25 percent. The passage of Measure CR will secure the final three-quarter percent for the city before other taxing agencies act first and take the opportunity away.”

The public is invited to attend the September 8 event.
