Marie Callender’s building demolished

The building formerly occupied by Marie Callender’s restaurant was demolished this week.

The 8,500 square foot commercial building, located at 1030 W. Foothill Blvd., “has become a health and safety concern,”?according to the city.

The restaurant closed last November and, since that time, there have been multiple break-ins and three arrests for trespassing and loitering at the property. Security guards regularly ask would-be squatters to leave the property, the city said. Intruders recently broke into the building and damaged a water pipe, flooding the interior and causing extensive damage.

The Marie Callender’s in Claremont closed after 45 years, as the chain began closing locations nationally.

The building was constructed in 1972 and is not considered historic, as confirmed through consultation with Claremont Heritage, the city reports.
