Man steals bike, foot pursuit injuries campus officer

On Tuesday, October 8 an Upland man was arrested after he was caught stealing a bicycle from the Claremont Colleges. Officers were called to 230 Bonita Avenue in front of Blaisdell Hall around 12:45 p.m., and found the suspect, 22-year-old Marco Lopez, leaving the scene on the bike, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. Police followed Mr. Lopez to Fremont and Moreno Street in Montclair, where Mr. Lopez then took off on foot through a business complex. A Campus Safety officer fell during the foot pursuit, causing a wrist injury. Mr. Lopez was found on the 8900 block of Central Avenue, where he was arrested on charges of theft, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.
