‘Walk in my Shoes’ around the Village

Participants in the Walk a Mile in My Shoes event cross First Street in the Claremont Village on Tuesday. The event was co sponsored by the Service Center for Independent Living and the Inland Empire chapter of the Blind of California. During the walk a sighted visitor is blindfolded and has to navigate a short walk through the Village with the help of a guide and a white cane. The goal is to raise public awareness of the difficulties visually impaired people encounter doing basic tasks on a daily basis. Visitors also learned how the blind use a computer, cell phone and make a cup of coffee. COURIER photo/Steven Felschundneff
