Small fire at Claremont senior apartment building

Police and fire officials are investigating a fire in a Claremont senior apartment complex that occurred on Friday afternoon.

Fire officials rushed to the Claremont Villas senior apartment complex at 100 south Indian Hill Boulevard around 12:16 p.m. on a call of a fire in a third floor unit, Sgt. Hector Tamayo of the Claremont Police Department said.

According to Sgt. Tamayo, a 70-year-old man who was living inside the unit was cooking when some clothing items caught fire. He was transported to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was quickly knocked down by fire crews responding to the scene. No other units appeared to be damaged.

The fire is still under investigation, Sgt. Tamayo said.
