Too much turkey? Pack up the family and head out

Picture this: it’s the weekend following Thanksgiving. Family members from out of state are still in town, and leftovers are becoming scarce. What do you do to quell an increasingly restless crowd?

Fortunately, the COURIER has you covered. Here are four restaurants from all corners of Claremont to satisfy any palette, from new upstarts to local mainstays.



There’s a new ice cream shop in north Claremont, and it’s offering residents something new and tasty this holiday season.

Claremont Cones officially opened on November 17 in the former location of Baskin-Robbins in the Vons shopping center on Base Line and Mills. Opened by the same owners as nearby Round Table Pizza, It offers 48 different flavors of ice cream, with vegan options and sorbet.

But what sets them apart are their “ice cream burritos,” a sugary concoction featuring ice cream and cotton candy wrapped like a burrito. Couple that with their bubble waffles, acai and pittaya bowls, and Claremont Cones has something for everyone.

Speaking of stacks, Claremont’s newest sandwich shop is bringing an intriguing spin to a classic American food.

Located in the Claremont Packing House along First Street, Stacks offers delicious grab-and-go fare that is perfect for dining in or taking out.

Try out the Claremont Sandwich, which features a generous helping of turkey along with avocado, sprouts, red onion and tomato on squaw bread. If the weather outside is a little more frightful, Stacks has hot sandwiches featuring rotisserie chicken, pastrami and meatballs. For a side, try the curried couscous—it’s delicious and 100 percent vegan.

What better way to recover from the heavy holiday weekend than a nice sushi dinner with friends and family? We recommend Hayato, a Claremont staple that serves some of the finest rolls in the City of Trees.

The lunch combinations are a local favorite. Choose any two items—including California and vegetable rolls, chicken teriyaki or sashimi for less than 10 dollars.

The curries are also a favorite here at the COURIER. Take your pick between the Hayato Curry or the Katsu Curry, and we promise you won’t be disappointed. Think Japanese fried chicken in a tasty brown sauce served with sticky white rice.

Hayato Sushi is located at 950 west Foothill Boulevard. They’re open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and back open for dinner from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Give them a call at (909) 625-6250.



There’s really nothing better than taking your family to breakfast at a local diner.

Thankfully for us, there’s a wealth of local greasy spoons in and around Claremont that offer delicious and quick food with a warm atmosphere. While there may be some people out there with their own local favorite, we prefer a Claremont staple—Kick Back Jack’s

Kick Back Jack’s—or BC Café, whichever you prefer—offers some of the best pancakes in the business. Get a strawberry and peach flapjack combo with extra powdered sugar to force the post-Thanksgiving tryptophan out of your body for good.

If you’re not in the mood for stacks, Kick Back Jack’s also has some delicious breakfast skillets and omelettes. Get the Louisiana Hot Link Omelette or the Bahama Mama Skillet for a tidal wave of flavor.
