Police arrest repeat sex offender

Claremont police arrested Javier Sanchez, 26, in connection with making lewd comments to a minor just one week after he was arrested for masturbating in front of the Claremont Public Library.

Police said Mr. Sanchez was at the restaurant around 12:30 p.m. on November 27 when he allegedly said several expletives to the 16-year-old restaurant employee, including “What’s up bitch,” and “S**k my d**k bitch,” Det. Matt Hamill of the Claremont Police Department said.

Mr. Sanchez, who is a registered sex offender, left before police arrived. But a physical description from the victim led Claremont officers to believe he was behind the incident.

On December 5, the Los Angeles District Attorney filed charges of annoying or molesting a child, and an arrest warrant was issued, police said. Claremont police found Mr. Sanchez shortly thereafter and he was arrested.

Mr. Sanchez was convicted last week of indecent exposure after he was seen masturbating in front of the Claremont Library on November 21. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 90 days in jail on November 25, but was released on November 26 at 12:52 p.m. due to jail overcrowding, police said.

He was also arrested for sexual battery in February 2019 after he grabbed the buttocks of a woman who was walking in the area of College Avenue and Fourth Street, according to a previous COURIER article.

Mr. Sanchez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the CPD jail, and is scheduled to appear at Pomona Superior Court on Friday, December 6.

Police released Mr. Sanchez’ mugshot in an effort to locate other potential victims. Anyone with information should call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.
