Pedestrian killed in early morning hit and run crash

Claremont police are investigating a fatal hit and run collision early Wednesday morning that left a pedestrian dead.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Towne Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. after getting reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, police said. LA County Fire initially found the victim, reported as a Caucasian man in his 50s, and rendered aid, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the vehicle fled the location without rendering aid or notifying emergency personnel, police said.

Towne Avenue north of Foothill Boulevard is currently closed in both directions as of 8:30 a.m.
