Claremont city council calls special meeting for Thursday

A special meeting of the Claremont City Council is tentatively scheduled at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. Additionally, city staff says “certain other items with a time-sensitive nature will be placed on this agenda as the March 24, 2020 regular city council meeting will be cancelled.” 

The meeting is called in accordance with “Executive Order N-25-20 issued by Governor Newsom, and in order to ratify the declaration of emergency called by the City Manager in her role as Director of Emergency Services.”

The city will be publish the agenda for this meeting on Tuesday, with special teleconferencing arrangements being prepared to allow residents to participate from home. 

“This should be considered particularly if you are 65 years or older and/or have any type of compromised immune system or respiratory issues,” the city said. “We ask you do not attend if you are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or fever.”

Public comment will be taken in the normal manner and remotely up until 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. Comments can be emailed to sdesautels@ci.claremont.ca.us and jcostanza@ci.claremont.ca.us. All comments will be distributed to the city council, imaged into the record and placed in the public review binder as is the city’s standard practice.

Residents can also email their telephone number by 1 p.m. and the city will call you at the time the item is being considered. 

For those who wish to attend the special meeting, city staff asks people to be mindful of social distancing and allow for six-foot spacing between you and others, avoid shaking hands and touching your face. Hand sanitizer will be available in the council foyer, and the restrooms will be open so visitors can wash your hands.
