Third Claremont resident tests positive

County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health reports a third confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in the city of Claremont in a news release sent out Wednesday afternoon. No further information about age or gender of Claremont’s confirmed cases is available.

The County Department has confirmed 11 new deaths and 513 new cases of COVID-19 since its previous update on Tuesday. Nine of the 11 deaths reported today occurred in people over the age of 65, while one person was between the ages of 41 and 65, and one was between 18 and 40. All were reported to have underlying health conditions except for two individuals over the age of 65. Additional information regarding some of the new cases is pending further investigation. Over the past 48 hours, there have been 1,061 new cases.

Public health has identified 3,518 cases across all areas of Los Angeles County, including 65 deaths. Upon further investigation, 11 cases reported earlier were not Los Angeles County residents. As of today, 733 people who tested positive for COVID-19 (20% of positive cases) have been hospitalized at some point during their illness.

Emerging evidence suggests that there may be a significant number of people infected with COVID-19 who are asymptomatic and capable of spreading the virus to others. New guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that everyone needs to think about using universal precautions all of the time—assuming that each of us can infect others even if we are not sick ourselves.
