Claremont makes big changes to July 4th event schedule

The City of Claremont is making changes to the Fourth of July Celebration scheduled for Saturday July 4, 2020. This year, the city will host a flag raising ceremony followed by the hometown parade, a time-honored Claremont tradition.

The 5K Run, pancake breakfast, festival, and fireworks show have been cancelled due to the impacts of the Safer at Home order on staffing, financial support, community participation, and venue availability. The city has made this decision in consultation with event partners and sponsors.

The annual day-long series of events requires months of logistical planning by city staff, the Independence Day Committee, as well as many community partners. These planning efforts have been affected by uncertainty from the COVID-19 quarantine.

Claremont will move forward with planning the all-American hometown parade and flag raising ceremony over the next two months. In early May, the Blue Ribbon Committee

will be selecting the Parade Grand Marshal, Honored Citizen, and Honored Group. Parade applications will also be made available in early May.
