Overnight parking enforcement resumes

Enforcement of the overnight parking ordinance resumed Saturday, May 16 at 2 a.m.

Police said the decision was made because of the number of vehicles being stolen and burglarized within the city since COVID, as well as public feedback regarding the need for street sweeping to keep the city clean.

The Claremont Municipal Code prohibits parking any vehicle on a city street for more than one hour between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m.

Police remind residents that if you need to park on the street between 2 and 6 a.m., you can apply for an ONP exemption up to 60 days in advance.

Each household is entitled to three ONP exemptions (three nights) per vehicle, per month. The police department is accepting requests for extended ONP exemptions with approval being based on “articulable and specific facts” as to how COVID prevents one from being able to use driveways and other parking options.
