Colleges plan to hold classes in fall under modified schedule

The Claremont Colleges announced today that students will be returning to in-person instruction for the fall semester, but under a revised schedule.

“The Presidents’ Council of The Claremont Colleges has approved a fall academic calendar for the five undergraduate institutions. This schedule attempts to minimize the impact of COVID-19 and the flu season on our community during the winter months,” read a letter signed by the presidents of the Claremont Colleges.

The revised schedule will begin on August 24, a week earlier than usual, and end by November 24. Final exams and assessments will be conducted remotely and be completed by December 4.

“This early start and early end by Thanksgiving will allow students to travel home for Thanksgiving and remain there, rather than traveling back and forth for Thanksgiving and increasing the potential for virus spread,” the letter read.

Other details and “important decisions” have yet to be finalized including “bringing back as many students to campus as safely as possible.”

The COURIER will have more details as the story develops.
