Claremont Meals on Wheels seeks new volunteers

Because of the coronavirus and other factors, the Claremont Meals on Wheels program is currently seeking additional volunteers to help pack and deliver hot lunches to seniors and other vulnerable adult residents of Claremont.

Volunteers are asked to commit to two 90-minute sessions per month for a total of three hours per month. Packers work from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and delivery drivers work from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

According to Ron Wolff, president, the nonprofit currently has about 140 volunteers.

“But it’s not quite enough, because our client count has increased recently and we’ve experienced a few recent resignations,” Mr. Wolff explained.

Claremont Meals on Wheels has no paid staff, yet they provide meals Monday through Friday to about 75 clients for just $3 per meal. A reduced rate is even available to those who qualify. Meals consist of a protein, vegetable, starch, bread and butter, salad with dressing, milk and dessert.

Anyone interested in learning more about the opportunity should call the kitchen (office) at (909) 621-4018 and leave contact information.
