The Service Center for Independent Life has a large shipment of personal protective equipment they would like to give away, including 4,000 surgical masks, 2,000 face shields, 12 cases of gloves and gallons of hand sanitizer.

The 40-year-old Claremont non-profit received the PPE from the California Office of Emergency Services.

“We want to give it to seniors and people with disabilities,” SCIL Executive Director Larry Grable told the COURIER.

Other SCIL programs that are currently ongoing include a food distribution sponsored by a grant from Feeding America. Last week they distributed boxes of food to 49 families.

The in-person classes that the group normally holds at the Spring Street office are now online with offerings in cooking and math, among others

People who are interested in the free PPE can call the SCIL office at 909-621-6722 Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
