The Claremont Police Department arrested John Dehaseth, 56, from Claremont, on suspicion of rape and possession of drug paraphernalia from an incident that took place earlier this year, according to a press release provided by Claremont PD.
On March 23, 2020, Claremont Police Officers responded to a disturbance call-for-service in the 1500 block of Mural Drive in Claremont. When officers arrived, they located a 38-year old female victim who stated she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the suspect inside his nearby residence.
The victim provided the officers with suspect information and the location where the crime occurred. During months of continuous investigation, evidence was located, which corroborated the victim’s statement, police said.
On Thursday, August 27, the Claremont Police Department Detective Bureau, the CPD Drug Detection Canine handler and his partner, Dodger, executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the 1500 block of Mural Drive in Claremont. The suspect attempted to escape by fleeing on foot out the back door of his residence, but was quickly apprehended by the officers.
Evidence was recovered at Mr. Dehaseth’s residence. Based on information obtained during the investigation, it appears that he is currently unemployed.
Mr. Dehaseth was booked into the Claremont PD Jail and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He will be arraigned in the Pomona Superior Court on Monday, August 31.
