A brush fire burned approximately one-third of an acre in a vacant field just north of Oak Park Cemetery, 410 Sycamore Ave., on Monday, May 13, at about 8:15 p.m. The fire is currently being investigated by the Claremont Police Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s arson investigation team, after reports that 2 juveniles were seen running from the field seconds after the fire started. No suspects had been found as of Tuesday morning. 

“They are just ghosts at this point,” said Claremont Lieutenant Mike Ciszek.  

Fire engines from Los Angeles County and the Montclair Fire Department responded to the initial report and extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes, according to the Claremont Police Department. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Anyone with any information regarding this incident should call the Claremont Police Department immediately at 399-5411.
