**UPDATE 12:45 p.m.: Claremont Police have confirmed that the suspect was arrested by the Monrovia Police Department at his home on Merrywood and Arrow Highway. All more complete story will appear in Friday’s edition of the COURIER.

**UPDATE 11:30 a.m.: Police continue to search for a man who reportedly set a car on fire in the city of Monrovia. A perimeter has been set up from Towne Avenue east to Mountain Avenue, just south of the 210 Freeway. A suspect or suspects have been detained on Maryhurst Avenue, but they are believed to be the suspect’s brother(s).

San Bernardino and Rialto arrived shortly after 11 a.m. to assist local police with their K-9 unit. Officers are currently going door-to-door near Chapman Road in an attempt to locate the suspect, described as a white male with brown hair wearing a black tank top.

Police are currently looking for an unidentified Claremont resident on the run, who reportedly set fire to someone’s car in the city of Monrovia on Tuesday night. According to reports from the scene, the suspect has a long record of violent crime. It is unknown whether or not the man is armed. 

Claremont Detective Robert Ewing spotted the man exiting the 210 freeway at Towne around 9:15 a.m. Seeing the officer, the man ditched his car near Scripps Drive and took off on foot. A resident in the 900 block of Occidental Drive was taking out his trash this morning and saw the suspect crouching in the bushes near his home. By the time police arrived a moment later, however, the man had taken off once more. Several residents have reported seeing him jumping into backyards off Occidental, Lake Forest Drive and Chapman Road, but the suspect remains at large.

The Claremont Police Department has not released information, however, the COURIER is on the scene. We will provide updates as information becomes available.
