Body found at Wilderness Park, possible suicide (updated)

The body of an Upland resident was found in the late afternoon today, Thursday, September 5, at the Claremont Wilderness Park, according to the Claremont Police Department. The individual had disappeared this morning and family notified the Claremont police that this person “had gone into the Claremont Wilderness Park to possibly harm himself.” The name or gender of the individual has not been released. Police were contacted by the victim’s family at about 9:52 a.m. on Thursday, September 5. Officers immediately closed down and evacuated the Wilderness Park to begin a search for who they deemed a “voluntary missing person.”

An aerial search was conducted by the Pasadena Police Department’s helicopter unit, but the missing person was not located. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team was called in to help and the search continued throughout the day. At about 4 p.m., Search and Rescue team members located the body of the deceased individual. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office is investigating the death.
