Starting today, Friday, September 20, the city of Claremont will begin enforcing permit-only parking zones on designated streets near the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park.  These include segments of Alamosa Drive, Brigham Young Drive, Dillard Avenue, Elmira Avenue, Independence Drive, Mills Avenue, Pennsylvania Place, Pomello Drive, St. Gregory Street and Vincennes Court. 

The Claremont City Council in July approved the temporary fix while city administrators work on creating a wilderness park master plan to holistically deal with parking and overcrowding issues at the bustling wilderness park. In the meantime, the council hopes restrictions will bring some level of respite for concerned wilderness area homeowners.Those in violation of the new restrictions will be cited.

City officials urge wilderness park users to take advantage of the 2 parking lots available to hikers on Mills Avenue for a slight fee. Parking is $3 for 4 hours, or a year pass may be obtained at city hall and the Hughes Center. Claremont residents may obtain a free parking pass for use in the south lot at Mills and Mt. Baldy Road.
