Joint school board, city council meeting Monday

A special joint meeting of the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education and the Claremont City Council will be held today, Monday, September 23 at 6 p.m. in the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center, 170 W. San Jose Ave. in Claremont.

At the gathering, the school board will recognize members of the Claremont Police Department, acknowledging them for conducting school safety trainings in response to the Sandy Hook school shooting. Claremont police provided 30-minute presentations demonstrating to staff how to react and protect others in the event of a school lockdown. Officers also walked school campuses, helping to identify areas of concern. On some campuses, officers were able to observe school lockdown drills and provide feedback.

The city council will provide an update on the city’s Youth and Family Master Plan and discuss ongoing support for city and school district joint use partnerships.

Each of these items will be provided for discussion only. The public is welcome to attend and to address the school board and council regarding agenda items.
