Sunrise Rotary ready to host 6th annual Turkey Trot

Are you looking to start your Thanksgiving Day with some fitness before the feast?

Claremont Sunrise Rotary’s 6th annual Turkey Trot—a 5K Run/Walk and 1K Fun Run set for Thanksgiving morning—may be just the ticket. Serious runners and families alike will enjoy this event, which drew nearly 2,000 people last year.

Both events begin on Thursday, November 28 at the Claremont Depot, located at First Street and Harvard Avenue in Claremont. The 5K will take runners through the Claremont Colleges and the streets of the Village for a downhill finish. More seasoned runners will be stationed at the front of the start line, while walkers and joggers will be positioned at the back.

All kids up to age 10 who participate in the 1K will receive a participation medal.  For 5K runners, a Trophy Award will be given to the best overall times in male and female categories. Then, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be divided by male and female and by age groups spanning from 10 and under up to 80-plus.

The cost to pre-register is $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under, with the deadline being Monday, November 25 at noon. A T-shirt is included with pre-registration but cannot be guaranteed to those who late register. To register online or to print out a form to register via mail, visit

You can also stop by the Claremont Depot on Wednesday, November 27 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. for early check-in and live registration featuring the pre-register price.

Check-in and late registration for the 1K Fun Run will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 28. Check-in and late registration for the 5K Run/Walk will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. Race-day registration is $35 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and younger.
