Viewpoint: Citrus College is ready to serve
by Greg Schulz, Ed.D., Superintendent/President of Citrus College
It is an exciting time to be at Citrus College.
Over the last month, we have held several celebratory events honoring accomplished students, newly tenured faculty members and retirees who spent decades making an impact on the lives of students.
There is perhaps no more significant celebration – or sign to the community that we are open and ready to serve students – than commencement, which will be held on Saturday, June 18. It is our first in-person graduation ceremony since 2019, and we are eager to give our graduates a day to remember.
Although it is important to acknowledge the personal and collective hardships everyone has experienced over the past two years, it is equally important to look ahead to the future.
These celebrations, coupled with an increasing percentage of classes being offered in-person, show we are moving in the right direction. COVID-19 may have changed the higher education landscape, but it has not diminished our capacity or eagerness to serve students.
Whether you prefer online learning, taking classes on campus or a combination of both, Citrus College has what you need. Our staff and faculty are eager to help our students, and we will continue offering classes and services in a thoughtful, pragmatic and efficient way.
For the upcoming summer session, which starts on June 27, 45% of classes are being offered in-person, 47% online and 8% hybrid. Our fall 2022 semester will begin on Aug. 29 with 60% of classes in-person, 31% online and 9% hybrid. Our class schedules are available online at citruscollege.edu, and registration for both terms began on May 9 and will continue until classes begin.
With more people on campus, we remain committed to providing a safe and healthy learning and working environment. The college has implemented a series of COVID-19 safety protocols – including mandatory weekly testing, daily self-screening assessments and QR code location check ins – and we will continue to closely monitor county and state guidelines and adapt as needed.
If you are interested in earning your associate degree, transferring to a four-year college or university, or learning new job skills, Citrus College is the place for you. To see how exciting it is to be here, consider attending commencement or watching the livestream – you won’t regret it.
