Plasma drive begins Monday

Adults in good health up to 69-years-old and weighing at least 110 pounds are invited to donate plasma from Monday, July 31 to Sunday, August 6 during a drive at Biomat USA Upland, 1405 E Foothill Blvd., Upland.

Call (909) 608-0022 to make an appointment with the code “MYP.” Walk-in appointments will also be taken. Visit grifolsplasma.com to learn more.

The instructions include to get a good night’s sleep prior to donating, hydrate with water, and eat a meal low in fat and cholesterol about two hours prior. Allow up to three hours for the transfusion process and accompanying rest on your initial visit.

Donors should bring a valid photo ID, and proof of social security number and address. A first-time donor checklist is available at grifolsplasma.com.

Donors are reminded to avoid tobacco and strenuous activity up to an hour before donating and to refrain from alcohol and caffeine intake on donation day.

What is a plasma donation?

Using a specialized machine, a donor’s blood is separated between its red blood cells and plasma contents. Red blood cells, platelets and some saline are returned to the donor while the machine retains the plasma.

What is plasma used for?

Plasma is an essential ingredient in medications, treatments, and plasma-based biotherapies for life-threatening conditions such as hemophilia, immune deficiencies, and other blood disorders.
