Rancho calls on artists for utility box beautification
Adult artists who reside in the Inland Empire region are invited to submit up to two original designs as part of Rancho Cucamonga’s utility box beautification program by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, or until 100 applications are received.
Applications must include an artist statement of interest — 750 words maximum — and a design concept and statement. Final designs should be filed as a PDF, .ai, .psd, TIFF, or JPEG. TIFF and JPEG submissions need to be a minimum of 150 dots per inch and a minimum of 2,000 pixels.
Artists will be selected by Thursday, January 18, with final designs completed by Thursday, February 15. The artwork will be installed sometime between March and April of 2024 by a third party vendor who may adjust the finished piece. Selected artists will be paid $750, and the city will cover the cost of installation and maintenance.
To apply, register an account at callforentry.org, navigate to “apply to calls,” and search for “City of Rancho Cucamonga Utility Box Beautification Program.” Artists must include all materials to bring their design to life, and will need to be available for up three meetings in early 2024 to finalize the layout. Additional communication via email may also be necessary. The artist retains the copyright of the artwork.
Artwork will be selected by a panel chosen by the city. Application questions can be emailed to publicart@cityofrc.us. For additional info visit cityofrc.us.
