Teen poetry contest entry deadline is April 30

Los Angeles County Library’s second annual teen poetry contest invites youth in grades seven through 12 to submit an original poem for a chance to have it printed in an anthology booklet.

Entry forms can be picked up at the Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave. Completed forms and poems can be mailed to the local library or emailed to pespinosa@library.lacounty.gov. There is a limit of one original work per poet not to exceed 25 lines. Poems can be typed or written legibly.

Poems will be judged in three categories, from grades seven to eight, nine to 10, and 11 to 12. The top five poems in each category will be printed in the anthology, which will be distributed to finalists and displayed at the library. The top two poems in each category will receive a gift card prize, $50 for first place and $30 for second.

The deadline for submission is Tuesday, April 30. Finalists will be contacted by Saturday, May 18. Winners must pick up their prize by Saturday, June 8.
