Webb student athletes recognized by CIF-SS

The California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section recently named The Webb Schools among its 2023-2024 Ford Academic Award winners in the 1,500 and below student enrollment category.

To be considered, teams must have at least five student athletes with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the first semester or first two quarters of the 2023-24 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport determines the winner.

First place honors went to the boys tennis team, 3.952, girls water polo, 3.888, and boys wrestling, 3.650. Each will receive a commemorative banner. In second place were girls wrestling, 3.729, and girls golf, 3.928. Girls tennis, 3.875, and boys golf, 3.847, took third. Honorable mentions went to football, baseball, softball, boys water polo, and the boys and girls volleyball, track and field, swim and dive, soccer, cross country, and basketball programs. The academic team winners will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before the April 22 Los Angeles Angels-Baltimore Orioles game in Anaheim. Teams that participated and qualified will receive academic award certificates.

Additionally, Isabel Kim, a girls swimmer and water polo player, and Zicong Yang, a boys soccer player, were named student-athletes of the year by Webb for their respective 4.0 GPAs. The duo were two of 405 senior student-athletes named by CIF-SS who maintained at least a 3.5 GPA over the past three years, earned a letter in at least one varsity sport, and participated in extracurricular activities.
