Obituary: Audrey Allen

Beloved great-grandmother, family-focused matriarch

Audrey Allen, 91, died on October 30.

Audrey was born May 8, 1931, to Betty (nee Nutt) and Walter Walker in La Jolla, California.   The family moved to Glendora when she was a teenager and she graduated from Citrus Union High School in 1948. She had happy memories of being a member of the glee club at Citrus, and attended many school reunions and maintained friendships from those days.

After graduating, she married H.D. Allen, first living in Glendora and then Claremont, where they raised their much-loved children John, Gary, Stephanie, David, Eden Dee, and Leigh Anne.  She loved spending time with her family and hosted many of the biannual reunions with her brothers and sisters and their families, Ross (Jeanne), Christine (Dan), Graham (Donna), and Jeanne (Steve).

After retiring she and H moved to Palm Springs, a place dear to her heart, where they regularly welcomed family and friends, most especially their beloved grandchildren, Alex, Claudia, Kasey, Torrie Haley, Chris, and Marc. She was also a proud great-grandmother of 13. She was a fantastic mother-in-law and friend to Jeanne (John), Eddie (Stephanie), Anne (Dave), and Joe (Leigh Anne).

“As her husband H would often say, ‘Audrey has never met a stranger,’” her family shared. “Her warm charm and outgoing personality were bestowed on all in her circle. She was a beauty queen as a young woman and remained beautiful throughout her life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. We know she has now joined H, the love of her life, and Eden Dee, and we wish them peace and love together.”

She was preceded in death by her husband H; daughter Eden Dee; brother Ross; and brother-in-law Dan.

“Audrey never did care for any fuss,” her family said. Per her wishes there will be no services.
