Obituary: Robert Harry Anke

Grandfather, golfer, bowler, RV traveler

“Robert Harry Anke joined his beloved wife in heaven on January 25 at the age of 82 in his home in Chino Hills,” his family shared.

Bob was born September 18, 1941, in San Diego, to parents Robert W. and Leila G. (Holloway) Anke. After graduating from Pomona High School, he married Patricia Parker. They had one daughter before divorcing in 1965. He then married Kathleen Carney Anke on August 12, 1966. They lived in Pomona and had three children before settling in Claremont in 1976.

He worked most of his career for General Dynamics in Pomona, relocating to Arizona when Hughes then Raytheon bought out the company. He commuted weekly to see his family until he retired from Raytheon in 2002, returning home to Claremont full time thereafter.

He was an avid golfer, a near 300 bowler, a fan of Formula One racing, and couldn’t pass up an ice cream. He and his wife Kathy loved camping, traveling in their RV all over the country, golfing as they went, frequently visiting her family on the East Coast.

He is survived by his children Leila (Bob) Auer of Chino, Kristine Gordon of Navasota Texas, Robert (Stephanie) Anke of Pleasant Valley California, and Patrick (Heather) Anke of Phoenix; grandsons Robby Auer, Christian Anke, and Isaac Anke; and his brother Lee (Traute) Anke of Vista, California.

He was preceded in death by his adored wife, Kathleen Anke; and his only granddaughter, Layla Auer.

Services will be held Saturday, March 2 at Forest Lawn, 21300 Via Verde St., Covina, CA 91724, with a visitation in the Magnolia Room from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., a funeral service at Church of Our Heritage at 2:30 p.m., with interment immediately following.
