Obituary: Sharron Lyne Gregory Pinnell

Beloved wife and mother, longtime Claremonter, L.A. County social worker

Sharron Lyne Gregory Pinnell died peacefully at home on April 16. She was 82 years old.

Born March 3, 1940 in Eagle Rock, she grew up on her parents’ ranch in Kerman, California. She attended Fresno State College (now Fresno State University) from 1957 until 1961, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in social welfare.

She married Robert Pinnell in August 1962 and accompanied him as he studied for his Ph.D. and completed his postdoctoral work.

She began her career as a social worker at this time, focusing on child abuse and neglect. In 1966, the couple settled in Claremont, where he began his career as a college professor and she began her 32 years as a social worker and supervisor at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services. She retired in 1999, dividing her time between her homes in Claremont and Cambria.

Sharron had two children: son Jason Pinnell (deceased in 2005) and daughter Sabrina Pinnell; she is also survived by her son-in-law Edward Collins; brothers Gary and James Gregory, and their wives Gayle and Rhonda.

Sharron was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Todd Memorial Chapel in Claremont will be hosting a visiting from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, and a service at 10 a.m. May 5 for Sharron Pinnell’s family and friends.
