Obituary: Allene Stutts

Allene L. Stutts died peacefully on September 7, 2016 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads, New York. She was 88.

She was born August 31, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to Norma (Owenby) and Thomas D. Lance. Allene graduated as valedictorian from Wink High School in Wink, Texas and continued her education at the University of Texas, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics and a master’s degree in human nutrition.

She worked as a research scientist in laboratories at Auburn University and Texas A&M University. She met her husband, Ensel C. Stutts, at Auburn University in 1950 and they married in 1951. Mrs. Stutts worked in the family business, Stutts Scientific Service in Ontario, where she was vice president. She continued running the business after her husband died in 1989, retiring in 1991. While living in California, she was active in the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, the Republican Women’s Club and parent organizations at her children’s schools. Allene moved to Horseheads in 2013. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Ensel. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian E. and Catherine Stutts of Horseheads, New York, and their daughters, Christina and Teresa, and by her daughter and son-in-law, Jana S. and David Langrehr of Sparta, Wisconsin. 

Services were held at Todd Memorial Chapel in Claremont, followed by private interment at Oak Park Cemetery. Donations in Allene’s memory can be made to Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles (alzgla.org), 4221 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90010.
