Obituary: James Joseph Gucciardo

Retired Claremont Police Officer, loving father and husband

James Joseph Gucciardo, a long time Claremont resident, died peacefully with his family by his side the evening of February 24, 2017 at Mt. San Antonio Gardens Health Center in Claremont. He was 93 years old.

Jim, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. He proudly served his country in World War II, in the Army Air Force alongside his two brothers, Phil and Pete.

After the war, he returned to Chicago, where he married the love of his life Elaine Palmisano. In 1953 they moved to Claremont, where he pursued his childhood dream of becoming a police officer, serving with distinction for 26 years. His career in law enforcement meant everything to him, his family shared, and he lived to serve and protect with kindness, compassion and fairness to all.

After settling down in Claremont, they had three children, son James and twins Lindy and Ron. Jim and Elaine had their dream home built in Claremont, where they lived for several decades.

He enjoyed working in his garden and decorating the home for the holidays.

Mr. Gucciardo is survived by his children—his sons, James and Ron, his daughter Lindy and son-in-law Darren, and his last remaining sibling, his sister Josephine. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Elaine; his brothers Phil and Pete, and his sisters Angie and Jenny.

“Dad, we could never say goodbye, only good night,” his children shared, “and then we will wait for that beautiful dawn when we will all be together again.”

Services will be held Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Ave., Pomona. Interment will follow at Pomona Cemetery, 502 E. Franklin Ave., Pomona.
