Loving father, UCLA grad, businessman

Longtime Claremont resident Rex Fleury died August 27, 2017 at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. He was 84.

Rex Fleury was born on October 12, 1932 in San Diego to Harry and Ruth Fleury. He grew up in Alhambra, graduating from Alhambra High School in June of 1950.

After high school, Mr. Fleury attended UCLA, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration. Later he earned a master’s of business administration from Pepperdine University.

He married Kathleen Crawford on August 28, 1963. The couple moved to Claremont in 1972, where they raised their family.

Mr. Fleury worked for Travelers Insurance for several years, later accepting a position as office administrator at the law office of Nichols, Stead, Boileau and Lamb, from where he retired in 1993.

Mr. Fleury was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen in August of 2007.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer Brenner (Dana Brenner), Juli Hester (Charles “CJ” Hester, Jr.) and Peter Fleury (Annie Fleury); and his grandchildren, Alyssa Brenner, Dalanee Hester, Catherine Hester, Kateryna Fleury, Vivian Fleury and Tristan Fleury.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, September 30 at Forest Lawn Covina Hills, 21300 Via Verde Dr., Covina.
