Obituary: Gean G. Halliday

Great-grandmother, lifelong churchgoer, WAC member

Longtime Claremont resident Gean Halliday died peacefully on October 8, 2017. Ms. Halliday had lung cancer but did not suffer with any pain, her family shared.

She was born Georgia Gean Grunigen on January 24, 1932 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As a young woman she was stationed abroad in the Women’s Army Corps, a US Army unit created for women during World War II. 

She was a bookkeeper for more than 50 years, was a lifelong member of Claremont United Methodist Church, and served on the board of Church Women United for many decades.

Ms. Halliday is survived by her two children, Tina Leslie Halliday-Patroniti, and John Halliday III; her grandchildren Kayne Halliday, Patricia Halliday, Zachary Patroniti and Emily Patroniti; her great-granddaughter Nicole Gumke; and by her son-in-law Paul Patroniti.

A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 28 at Claremont United Methodist Church, 211 W. Foothill Blvd., Claremont.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to CUMC at claremontumc.net.
