Great-grandmother, beloved ‘Mimi’ to her grandchildren

Sharon Sue Berkey died peacefully in her Claremont home with her family and loved ones by her side on April 17, 2018 at the age of 73.

“It is with immense sorrow that we declare the passing of Sharon Sue Berkey,” Ms. Berkey’s family reported.

She was born October 19, 1944, the eldest of four children, and grew up near Los Angeles in Eagle Rock. 

Young Sharon married the love of her life of her life, Delbert Berkey, in 1961. They were happily married for 46 years. Together they had four children. 

She is survived by her children, Douglas, Deborah, Darlene and Donna; nine grandchildren to whom “Mimi” was the center of their world, Stephanie, Timothy, Brett, Ashley, Marcus, Vincent, Alexandria, Whitney and Nicholas; and 10 great grandchildren, Kennedy, Ashlyn, Avery, Collin, Bryce, Ellie, Nikki, Landon, Logan and soon-to-be baby Ava.

“A huge hole will live on in our hearts as Sharon was the center of her family and friends,” her family shared. “Her door was always open and she would welcome you with open arms, a warm meal and a hot cup of coffee.”

Her beloved husband, Delbert Berkey, preceded her in death.

A service was held on April 26 at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier.
