Obituary: Lawrence Rothe

Veterinarian, avid reader, loving family man

Former Claremont resident Lawrence August Rothe, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully on November 26. He was 70.

The son of Lawrence Sr. and Dorothy Downey Rothe, Larry was born September 28, 1948 and grew up in D’Hanis, Texas, the oldest of seven children.

After studying veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University, he moved to California at age 23 to begin his career as a small animal veterinarian. He ran Disney Pet Hospital for the last 28 years, where he was beloved by clients and colleagues. He often expressed how fortunate he felt to have found a career he loved.

He was a kind, thoughtful man known for his affection for family and friends, his generous laughter, and his compassionate belief that everyone does their best, his family shared. He enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling and sharing stories, and loved every year more than the last.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Bonnie Clare; sons Michael and Jordan (Sarah); daughter, Polly; two grandchildren; and six siblings and their families.
