Obituary: Ruby Richardson

On Friday, 2019, Ruby Richardson, loving wife and mother of three children, died June 28 at age 92.

Ruby was born on May 9, 1927 in Belleville, Arkansas, to Dewey and Verna Lampkin. She married Boone Richardson on June 5, 1955 in Little Rock.

The couple lived in Auburn, Alabama and Annandale, Virginia, and spent many summers with their children at her mother’s farm in Danville, Arkansas.

The Richardsons became Claremont residents in 1974 and were quickly enamored with the small college town. The City of Trees would become Mrs. Richardson’s favorite place to live.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was involved in several organizations. She was a member of the Claremont Methodist Women, the Ramblers Study Club and enjoyed weekly games of bridge with friends. She volunteered at the annual Pilgrim Place Festival for many years, and at Claremont High School’s library and for several community groups, including Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed growing flowers and creating floral arrangements, going to the Joslyn Center for lunch, attending concerts at Memorial Park, and taking daily walks around her neighborhood. She loved having family home for the holidays and spending time playing games like Rummikub and Yahtzee.

She will always be remembered for her sweet, loving, and caring nature, her family shared.

Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her husband, Boone Yates Richardson, whom she will join at Riverside National Cemetery.

She is survived by her three children, Debbee Shaffer, Misty Hibbard and Gary Richardson and their three spouses, Steve, Bill and Robyn, respectively; four grandchildren, Jenna and her husband Travis Stewart, Joshua, Paul, and Jason; her two sisters, Alene White of Montgomery, Alabama, Lila Lampkin of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and her brother, Hoyt Lampkin of Bluffton, Arkansas.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at Claremont United Methodist Church, 211 W. Foothill Blvd., Claremont.
