M. Elizabeth Swartz
Pomona resident M. Elizabeth “Libby” Swartz died on August 16, 2011 in the Mt. St Antonio Gardens Health Center. She was 97.
Ms. Swartz was born on February 4, 1914 in Akron, Ohio to John and Lottie Graf.
During her years in the Pomona Valley, Ms. Swartz was very active in numerous community organizations. She served as president of the Baldy View Division of the California Retired Teachers Association, of the OPARC board of directors and of the Pomona Valley Chapter of AAUW; was an active member of the Assistance League of Pomona Valley and the Order of the Eastern Star of Claremont; and served as an officer on the board of the Pomona Ebell Museum.
For 25 years, Ms. Swartz taught special needs children in the Ontario-Montclair School District.
Having lived at Mt. San Antonio Gardens since 1995, she was a very active resident and served on many committees there. She was also a charter member of Claremont Presbyterian Church.
Ms. Swartz is survived by her son, Roger Swartz of Upland; her niece, Linda Womack of San Clemente; her great-nephew and his wife, Chris and Stephanie Womack of Yorba Linda; and her great-niece, Gina Kagan of San Clemente. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ted Swartz; and by her sister, Margaret Womack.
Services were held yesterday, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Claremont Presbyterian Church.
